_______________

High school gets them into college, but most students and their parents are not prepared for what's next. As a result, a record number of students struggle during the college years.  New friendships, new classes, new schedules, new independence, new challenges, and new responsibilities can throw even the best and brightest.   Most first-year students need help navigating the normal and natural changes ahead.  Harlan helps students and parents get comfortable with the uncomfortable.

New York Times bestselling author Harlan Cohen  (The Naked Roommate: And 107 Other Issues You Might Run Into in College and The Naked Roommate: For Parents Only!) helps students and parents successfully navigate the first year in college. Harlan delivers facts, stats, stories, strategies, and life lessons to give students and their parents what they NEED to know during the college years.   Harlan has helped millions of students and countless parents support their children during this time of change.  College success isn't an accident. It takes planning, practice, and patience.

FOR STUDENTS:  This program can be presented to students as part of admissions events, orientation programs,  convocations, common reading programs, and college success programs throughout the year. Harlan can address mental health, retention, and all around college success.

FOR PARENTS: This program can be presented as part of admissions events, orientation programs, family weekend events, and college success programs throughout the year. Harlan can target mental health, retention, and how parents can support all around college success.

CAMPUS LEADERS:  This program can be presented as a workshop to help student leaders (ambassadors, orientation leaders, FYE staff, residence life staff, peer mentors) support themselves and first year students. This can address specific issues unique to your campus.

ABOUT HARLAN:  Harlan is a dynamic and humorous presenter who has visited over 500 high school and college campuses. His events are extremely interactive, engaging, and include impromptu conversations with audience members throughout the event.  Harlan also includes live text messaging as part of the event.   Each program is customized to fit the needs of your community.

HARLAN IN ACTION

What People Are Saying

Harlan was an absolute pleasure to have at Northeastern. He could not have been more gracious, easy to work with or nicer with our students. We had a fantastic turnout for a Friday rainy night in Boston –and what’s even better is that students stayed the entire show and really enjoyed it. We had an after-party that Harlan promoted during the show and had a very successful event. Students came to meet each other, meet Harlan and put themselves out there in a way that was clearly a result of Harlan’s encouragement and messaging. Possibly the most impressive to me was the time that Harlan took with students ---he was patient, kind and stayed at our event until each and every student who wanted an opportunity to speak with him had ample time to talk.

Last night was OUTSTANDING! Thank you so much for not only presenting, but actually spending time with our students and parents. Let’s set up a lunch meeting soon to plan for next year
